Scooters grow at 13%; Domestic Sales increase 20%

Bolstered by a robust increase in domestic sales TVS Motor Company continued its positive growth trend posting an optimistic 11% growth in August 2009. The company registered total two wheeler sales of 126,842 units against 114,321 units in the corresponding period of the previous year. The company has thus achieved a cumulative sales growth of 5% for the period April to August 2009 with cumulative growth of 10% in domestic sales.

Domestic sales of the company clocked 20% growth registering sales of 115,095 units in August 2009 as against 96,238 units in the corresponding month of the previous year, with motorcycles contributing 12% growth and scooters factoring in a growth of 13%.

Scooters accounted for 28,582 units of the total sales in August 2009 against 25,392 units in August 2008, an increase of 13% over the previous year. Total motorcycle sales of the company stood at 51,127 units in August 2009 when compared to 52,304 units in August 2008.

Exports continued to be affected with sales of 11,747 units of two wheelers in August 2009 as against 18,083 units in the corresponding period of the previous year.

During the month, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Khargagpur, one of the country's premier engineering and technology institutes today conferred the Honoris Causa Doctor of Science (D. Sc.) on Mr. Venu Srinivasan, Chairman of TVS Motor Company, for his outstanding contributions in the field of Quality Movement and Manufacturing Excellence.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Captain of the Indian Cricket Team and TVS Brand Ambassador, made a personal visit to TVS Motor Company's plant at Hosur during the month. He was enthused to see the various models produced by TVS, including the very first moped that the company manufactured. He tested the newly launched Apache RTR 180 and also tried out one of the road racing models of TVS. He later addressed the employees.

The Scooty Institute, by the TVS Scooty brand won laurels at the recently announced EMVIE Awards 2009, introduced by the advertising club, Bombay to honour measurable and significant contributions in the field of media. A total of 450 entries competed for top honours. Among the special award winners, Mudra Max bagged the Grand Emvie this year, for its entry "TVS Scooty - 'Women on Wheels', in the Best Media Innovation - Events category. In this campaign, The Scooty Institute across the country has trained over 3.9 lakh women to ride a Scooty.
